TEDxJenks

We all understand what it’s like to watch a TED Talk in school. The second you hear the drip drip from the red TED logo hitting the screen, you can’t help but have your eyes glued to whoever is about to deliver thought-provoking ideas, and now students have the opportunity to share their own important ideas at TED Talk at TEDxJenks!
The event will be held on May 1st from 9:15 to 4:00 at the Jenks Performing Arts Center and will feature talks from not only Jenks students, but students from various schools around the county like Booker T. Washington and Cascia Hall.
Jenks High School senior Sanjeev Musuvathy is the mastermind behind it all. Two years ago, Musuvathy created Jenks’ TED Ed Club which was meant to facilitate students to bring their own perspectives to the table, but it proved to not be exactly what he was looking for.
“For me, providing that opportunity to about five students isn’t really enough,” Musuvathy confessed. “I want to expand that to the entire Tulsa area, and when Mr. Horn was on board with pursuing the TEDx event, it really seemed like the best opportunity for me to help other students achieve that same goal.”
As co-captain of the Speech and Debate team, Musuvathy has grown accustomed to presenting big ideas in front of his peers. Now he wants to provide that same experience not just to students at Jenks High School, but also to the greater Tulsa area.
“[We hope to] help students who don’t really have a voice have an ability to express their opinions and have a platform to do so,” Musuvathy commented. “I think it will be a really cool opportunity and I’m excited to see what happens with it.”
Hosting the event alongside Mr. Horn, Musuvathy is excited to connect Tulsa county schools through one of the world’s biggest platforms. The YouTube channel for TEDx Talks has over 17.5 million subscribers.
“I think it will be a really cool opportunity and I’m excited to see what happens with it,” Musuvathy exclaimed. “So if you want to have an opportunity to come, talk to your teachers about it!”
