Lights! Camera! Sadies! Details and Costume Ideas

After nearly two and a half years of chatter, a Sadie Hawkins dance has finally been announced for the students of Jenks High School. On Saturday, February 22nd, Jenks students are invited to the TAC to enjoy a night of dancing. Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for any outside guests! Along with the announcement, an exciting film theme will be encouraged for costumes! If you’re still struggling with what to wear, the Torch has gathered some creative and cheap ideas along with some inside info on the upcoming event.
Before deciding on how to layout these costume ideas, the Torch sat down with STUCO President Andrew Carter to get more details on their vision for the long-anticipated dance.
“We are trying to create a culture where you don’t get a bus,” Andrew says. “The reason we are making it inexpensive is so that anyone, it doesn’t matter who it is, can go and have a good time and not have to worry about asking for money.”
Not only is the dance a fun addition to the school year, but it is raising money to send four Oklahoma Make a Wish kids to their desired trips. The goal is to raise 28,000 dollars, and just by attending Sadie’s, students can help with that goal! While Carter also informed us there is no dress code for the dance as long as it abides by normal school dress rules (shorts and a t-shirt could even suffice), the film theme is encouraged. The Torch has compiled a list of dress-up ideas you could create just from your closet and maybe a quick trip to Target.
Disney Princesses
Clothes: This could be a very casual take! For instance, focus on the princess’s main color. A good example would be Belle. All you need would be a cute yellow dress, skirt, top, or pants.
Hair: If your hair matched that of your princess, that would be ideal! Continuing with the Belle example, you could easily just curl your hair and replicate her half-up, half-down look.
Accessory: Each princess tends to have a main item or creature that most people relate them to: Cinderella and her slipper, Ariel and seashells, Elsa and snow, etc. Belle has her rose, which could be worn in your hair or simply represented through rose-themed jewelry.
Makeup: Normal makeup or none at all!
Pennywise
Clothes: A white t-shirt and some pants (jeans, cargo, any kind) will work for the base. To add to the “clown” look, red pom-poms can be found at Michaels for only $0.99 that could be glued down the front of the shirt. You could even use fabric to add little frills to the neckline and sleeves of the shirt for extra appeal.
Hair: It can be left alone, or if you own any red hair paint, you could spray that in.
Accessory: Easy. A red balloon or a paper boat.
Makeup: White and red face paint can be bought at Party City for around 2-3 dollars, but if you don’t want to spend the money, you could easily use powder and red lipstick to create his iconic look.
South Park
Clothes: If you are going for the four main boys, just replicate their normal looks. Each wears some type of parka/jacket, pants, and gloves. Just pick your character and look in your closet for the colors that fit the look!
Hair: Their hair is usually covered in the show, so it is not important.
Accessory: There are not many accessory options, so even more opportunities to save!
Makeup: None needed.
Hogwarts Houses
Clothes: This could work with any number of friends, but at the least, aim for four. Each house is represented by a different color: Ravenclaw and Blue, Gryffindor and Red, Slytherin and Green, and Hufflepuff and yellow. Create your outfit around those colors! If you have a little extra money to spare, house scarves can be purchased at Hot Topic from 15-20 bucks.
Hair: Whatever you want!
Accessory: Wands! You could make your own or find some online.
Makeup: None or maybe if you have a makeup savvy friend, your eyeshadow could correspond with your house color.
Westley and Buttercup from The Princess Bride
Buttercup
Clothes: Her iconic outfit is her long red dress. Something like this could easily be found at a thrift store or possibly on eBay, or if you want something more casual, just settle for a redshirt or skirt paired with something.
Hair: Hers is usually down, but if you wanted to spice it up, you can add some small braids.
Accessory: None.
Makeup: Natural.
Westley
Clothes: All black. A long sleeve shirt is better along with some pants! For shoes, black tennis shoes or boots work.
Hair: N/A
Accessory: You could carry around a little rat plush as a nod to the Swamp Rats! Also some type of black bandanna that you can tie around your head.
Makeup: N/A
Unfortunately, I can’t go in-depth for all my ideas or this article would be hundreds of thousands of words, but if none of these ideas suffice, I will list a few movies and characters by genre you could also do! Use the layouts above to figure out the cheapest and most efficient way to create your costume.
