Jenks High School Celebrates Diversity with the preparation of Global Village via The International Scholars Program

For an evening filled with vibrant colors, sounds, and displays from around the globe, Jenks students, families, and community members are welcome to join The International Scholars Program (ISP) for their annual Global Village hosted at Jenks Intermediate School. The event takes place on October 10th and celebrates the diversity of the student body and the rich cultural heritages they bring to the school by means of a walk around and hands-on experience.
Jenks International Scholars Program is a selective course in which you apply through an application process Sophomore year. When accepted, students are culturally enriched through guest speakers, readings, and projects. Another great opportunity that the program offers is, once a month two members from ISP are able to go to an event hosted by The Tulsa Committee on Foreign Relations.
ISP is held during the advisory period, in which students are divided between four teachers and must complete certain instructed activities as well as work towards larger events.
Jenks International Scholars have been working rigorously for over a month to ensure the best possible outcome for their Global Village event. One to two times a week ISP members partake in a “Global Village Workday.” These work days consist of a designated time for members to work on their exhibit for the event.
The students are divided in groups and assigned a region of the world selected based on personal interest. They then conduct research and design a poster that will be displayed with the objective of immersing their community into a new culture. Posters will include facts, pictures, and engaging visuals pertaining to their assigned region. ISP members have made a great effort to learn and demonstrate each culture beautifully.
“Global village is about reaching the Jenks community as a whole and spreading culture, kindness and politeness.” says ISP Senior, Mustafa Siddiqui.

Each ISP member is incredibly passion driven. It is evident that these students care deeply about the International Scholars initiative and are willing to work hard to push it to the Jenks community through global village.
The program not only offers an enriching curriculum but serves as a place where students of all backgrounds can bond over a shared love of learning and culture.
“When I graduate, I want to become a nurse, I think that ISP offers me a behind the scenes view of all kinds of people and this will give me background information when going into public health” ISP Junior, Ethan Logan says.
ISP fosters a wide range of teenagers with all different hopes and aspirations for their futures.
“I have a love for film and really like being around people who are sort of like nerdy and passionate, which I find a lot of that community at ISP,” said Senior ISP member Darby Graff.

The ISP message becomes increasingly clear: In Diversity there is strength, and the Jenks High School students are leading the way in embracing that idea. It’s prevalent in our amazing ISP members and our wonderful community that Jenks has so much pride for its wide span of culture. Global village Twenty Twenty-Four is sure to be an event to remember.
