Jenks vs. Union: Varsity Lacrosse Photo Journal

The day was March 21st. The time? 6pm. Lacrosse season was in full swing and the tense air was trapped beneath the gray blanket above the twilit evening. The stakes were high against the Union Varsity team, and the sounds of cleats and sticks striking the ground and each other alike filled the field.

The Scrimmage before the Game

Before the Lacrosse game started, each team received about 5 minutes to practice their offense against the other team’s defense. Players also warmed up by doing lunges and playing games of catch.

The First Goal

Right off the bat, Jenks scored a relentless goal against Union. The player on the right (6) is cradling the ball in his net, while Union player 0 takes on defense in front of the goalie.

Jenks player 6 was able to shoot over player 0. Union goalie failed to block the shot in time.

The Second Goal

To serve the ball, a coach will place it on the very center of the field. The team in advantage will place their net over the ball, and one player from the opposing team joins to fight for the ball.

Illegal Nets

Shortly after, one player from each team was issued a penalty for illegal equipment: one team had a net which was unfairly deep, and the other had a net that was crafted to with a slit slightly too thin to meet the utility requirement.

These players were issued different sticks once they were placed back in-game, and were allowed their illegal sticks after their penalty had been paid.

Jenks blocks Union Ball

After some running back and forth between goals, the ball finally found its way to Jenks' side of the field. Jenks defense failed to reclaim the ball, but the Jenks goalie successfully stopped the ball before it scored. Union 0, Jenks 3.

Next Ball

For the next round, the offense decided to join in on the fight for the ball, creating an almost catastrophic pileup of 4 players.

Another Fall: This one not so Lucky

As Jenks went for their seventh goal, Union player 6 took a harsh fall on the edge of the field. Player 6 took a hard impact to the shin and had to be dismissed from playing, weakening the Union team. At this point, the score had reached Union 2, Jenks 6.

#88

During Halftime, #88 asked if I was taking photos for a public platform, and he was ecstatic to pose for a photo. Afterwards, he wanted a picture with his coach.

"I wanna get a pic with coach too," he exclaimed. "Get over here, coach!"

Thankfully, #88's coach didn't mind at all.

#0 was able to take the ball almost entirely across the field multiple times. In this picture, #0 took the ball from the 80 yard mark (Jenks side) all the way to the 20 yard mark.

There were lots of falls throughout the game - during one in particular, Jenks #15 dropped his stick, and everyone on the team began screaming "yard sale?"

The Final Goals

The Jenks goalie and defense. These guys were able to fling the ball across the entire field on a few occasions, ensuring Jenks' final few goals.

And as the dust settled and the dusk faded to moonlight, the Jenks Trojan Varsity Lacrosse Team carried us to victory against Union, score 13-6.
