Pumpkin Spice it Up: Check Out What These Pumpkin Patches Offer!

Ahh, the season of fall. Pumpkin spice is in the air, leaves are falling, and what’s this? Pumpkin patches all over town are beginning to open for people to come with their families, friends, and dates to spend time together, shoot photos, and create experiences. I have never been to a pumpkin patch, so I was looking forward to seeing what all the hype was about. I sought out the nearest ones and ended up going to Carmichaels Pumpkin Patch and Pumpkin Town. Since I was only expecting to find fields with rows and rows of pumpkins, I was quite shocked.

Carmichael’s Pumpkin Patch (closes on October 31st)

Carmichael’s has been around for 44 years. What started as a store with a goat pen next to it flourished into a full family oriented pumpkin patch. Not only are there tons of pumpkins, but there are lots of animals as well. Pigs, goats, sheep, and chickens are just a few of the many animals that visitors can watch and feed.

“All the animals here are mine,” Owner Don Carmichael says. “The pigs are mine, the goats are mine, the ducks and chickens are mine. I bring them here for everyone to see and enjoy.”

You heard it folks, all the animals, aside from the ponies and camels, come from Carmichael’s farm. Everything here is local and very family-friendly. Here’s what you can expect going to Carmichael’s:

Camel rides
Wagon rides
Pony rides
Walking through the corn maze
Parakeet experience. This is just a small shed with lots of parakeets in it that you can walk through. The guide inside will talk to you about a lot of them and let you hold a few if you’re brave enough…

Pumpkin Town (closes on November 31st)

After coming from Carmichaels, my view of pumpkin patches had drastically changed. Little did I know that Pumpkin Town was gonna change it even more.

Pumpkin Town has been around for 21 years. Previously located at 81st and Mingo, Pumpkin Town relocated to 61st and Garnett. Here you can enjoy 20 acres of activities, food trucks, and pumpkin fun.

“This year we have a new tractor pull and tire swing,” Manager Debbie says. “Also, we grow corn in the corn maze and anyone who can find corn is able to take it home!”

Along with the tractor pull and the tire swing there are a lot of kid friendly activities here.
