The Jenks Key to Coffee

What word comes to mind when you think of downtown Jenks?

Some would say quaint, others would say photogenic; I, for one, would say Vintage. And what fits that criteria more than a local coffee shop?

Vintage Key is a young craft coffee place located on Main Street Jenks. It first opened in early October 2019 during the last few months before the Coronavirus pandemic. With a clean white aesthetic, it is easy to spot amongst the surrounding buildings that blend in more with the red bricks that define downtown.

“This one just feels far more homey than places like Starbucks or some other large chains,” says Maggie Silverson, a local patron of the establishment. “But, I also like how this one is in the middle of our town, so it feels very Jenks to me.”

The owners of the establishment are Lee and Kelley Churchill, and when you walk into their shop you can instantly tell that being the new proprietors of any outlet during COVID-19 comes with all the precautions you would expect.

They have made sure to keep all tables, coffee mugs, floors, and silverware disinfected and sanitary. Masks are also mandatory to enter.

It’s good that they’re keeping things safe too, as the atmosphere that Vintage Key crafts is perfect for drawing crowds and coffee enthusiasts from all over the town. But don’t take my word for it, take the word of a high school student that is a regular attendee.

“My favorite part, besides the drinks and food, is the atmosphere, definitely. I love a lot of the rustic blend with the more modern design,” says junior Lukas Sanderson. “It’s always really clean and the service is always really fast as well. It makes for a great place for me and my friends to hang out when we’re walking in downtown.”

Speaking of coffee enthusiasts, the menu is one that will appease anyone with a need for caffeine.

The Key’s inventory includes their classic espressos, cappuccinos, lattes, mochas and even cold brew. But their drinks aren’t restricted to just coffee. There is a fine selection of tea and chai, as well as many delectable pastries made from scratch, in-house.

“They have a great selection of coffees, but I always choose the Americano,” says Sanderson. “It has a great taste and is one of the most affordable things. I also really love the hot chocolate. In terms of pastries, I gotta go with the scones.”

While the world may be going through a great deal of strife right now, one thing is still certain: we all have to get out of bed and keep moving forward. If there is anything that makes that task a little easier, it’s a nice hot cup of coffee from a locally owned business.

So grab your friends, and any caffeine fanatics you may know, and head on down to Vintage Key Coffee. And I gotta say, the pastries aren’t bad either.
