Battle Of The Pies

Holidays mean it’s high time for pie time. The art of the pie is complicated to understand, so I will break down my personal understanding of the art. I have tried four different pies from four different places. I have rated pies based on the consistency of the filling, the texture of the crust, whether they are better warm or cold, and how accessible they are. Most importantly, finally, I’ve judged their presentation. 

Pie - Pecan Pie (eaten cold)

From - Aldi

The Deets- The look of the pie was dazzling. The pie had a layer of pecans, goo, and sugar crusted on top. The crust was dusted with flour and so flaky. I struggled to cut into the pie because the pan was very flexible. But when I cut into the pie and took a bite, the pan did not matter. The gooey filling and crunchy pecan top were the perfect combo and practically blessed my taste buds. It was good for a pecan pie - but the packaging was annoying (and the fact that I don’t like pecans) kept this from being a 10/10.

Overall rating - 8/10 candied pecans

Pie - Chocolate Satin Pie (eaten cold)

From- Walmart Frozen Marie Calendars

The Deets- First off, the pie presentation was out of this pan. The whipped cream was properly pipped on the surface of the pie in a beautiful array. On top, the chocolate was drizzled on top and had a nice crunch. The presentation was top-notch, especially for a frozen pie. The pie had thawed for 30 min so it was a perfect cutting and consuming temperature. I cut into the pie with a standard kitchen knife and easily extracted it. I set the pie on the plate and only a few chocolate crust crumbs came off. I grabbed my fork and dug in. The smooth layers of chocolate and cream blended so well. It immediately tasted of rich chocolate and oreo crumbs. Overall the pie was phenomenal and had a great combination of chocolates.  Only downfall was the fact it was pre-frozen. 

Overall rating- 9/10 chocolate drops

Pie- Key Lime Pie (eaten cold)

From- Laurannae Baking Co.

The Deets- Laurannae, in Broken Arrow, is commonly known for its environment and coffee but not its pies. Still, they have very popular pies, especially around the holidays. I went to Laurennae and chose my favorite, Key Lime Pie. It was chill to the touch and scented with lime zest, and it had a phenomenal presentation. The pie was a faded natural green color with a garnish of whipped cream and lime on top. It tasted perfect, with a creamy cold base and key lime added in. Nothing about it was artificial and it had great expectations to live up to. Undoubtedly the pie surpassed all my expectations. 

Overall rating- 11/10

Pie - Pumpkin Pie (eaten warm)

From - Sam’s Club

The Deets - Overall appearance was average despite the pie being GARGANTUAN. It had a smooth and glossy finish. I decided to bake the pie to enhance the flavor. It was a very thick and creamy consistency. The taste of the pumpkin was there and had a smooth cinnamon flavor in it. The pie crust, filling, and cool whip on top evened out all the taste. But over all this pie has been done a million times before, it did not have much potential being this average.

Overall rating- 7/10 hot squash
